By India Today Sports Desk: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has named his 5 favourite youngsters to watch in the Indian Premier League. Speaking to Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the tournament, the former BCCI president has spoken about his 5 favourites and the potential they carry in the future of cricket.

“The best in the business is Suryakumar Yadav. Obviously, you don’t consider him a youngster anymore, but having said that, among the young players, Prithvi Shaw has a lot of talent in the T20 format, and I think Rishabh Pant,” Ganguly said on Star Sports.

While Shaw will be playing in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the tournament and is recovering from a horrific car accident. Pant totalled his car back in December 2022 and had to undergo multiple surgeries.

“He (Shaw) is only 23 (25). He has got the world at his feet; Rishabh Pant is the No. 2. I would keep a look at Ruturaj Gaikwad, how he keeps playing. I think these are the three batsmen,” Ganguly said.

The former captain, well known for giving young pacers a chance in his playing days, said that Umran Malik has the nerve of the fans in the IPL.

“Umran Malik is one who will probably if he stays fit, will continue to keep the fans interested in the game because of his genuine pace,” Ganguly said.

Struggling to figure out his 5th choice, Ganguly finally arrived at his conclusion and called Shubman Gill as his final choice in the tournament.

“Yes exactly, that’s the name which slipped my mind. But I think my fifth player would be Shubman Gill. So, it’s Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Surya probably heads the list, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Umran Malik and Shubman Gill,” Ganguly concluded his chat.
