By India Today Sports Desk: Pep Guardiola has claimed that he was very pleased with Manchester City’s performance on Saturday as they defeated Bournemouth 4-1 to keep the pressure on Arsenal.
Goals from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden had put the reigning Premier League champions in cruise control before the end of the first half. An own goal from Chris Mepham would seal all three points for City in the 51st minute.
The win meant that Guardiola’s side are now second in the table with 55 points to their name and two behind Arsenal having played an extra game.
Speaking after the game, as quoted by BBC Sport, The City boss said that he was very pleased with the team’s performance and said they had played better than against Nottingham Forest, where they had to settle for a point.
Guardiola went on to say that they’re fighting for the title and they have a tough contender in Arsenal.
“We have had many travels and recoveries in the system with just three days between games, but the team is alive and I am very pleased with the game today.
“We played better than at Nottingham, we created more chances today, both games were really good but unfortunately it didn’t happen at Nottingham because football is football. We are still going to be fighting for the Premier League and we have a tough contender but many things are going to happen,” said Guardiola.
Guardiola also said that the Bournemouth game allowed him to rotate a little bit as well.
“Today was nice, we could rotate a little bit. You can get fatigued in the last 15 to 20 minutes, that is when injuries can happen in that moment but we could avoid injuries today. I’m happy,” said Guardiola.
Guardiola and his team’s next assignment is the FA Cup with their fifth round clash against Bristol City.
