Nathan Lyon teases Mitchell Starc as pacer’s wife Alyssa Healy gets set for Women’s T20 World Cup final

By India Today Sports Desk: Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and the other members of the Australian team are currently in India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But the Aussies are also focused on the women’s game where Australia will face South Africa in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup to be played on Sunday, February 26 at Newlands in Cape Town.
During this while, Nathan Lyon poked fun at Starc, whose wife Alyssa Healy will play in the final against Sune Luus and Co. Lyon was heard saying “Go on Mrs Starc!”
Healy is currently in impressive form as she is one of the leading run-scorers of the tournament. Healy, Beth Mooney and skipper Meg Lanning have scored the bulk of the runs for the Aussies in the ongoing mega event. Healy also played a crucial role when Australia won the Women’s T20 World Cup final against India in 2020.
“Yeah, she likes the big games and been building nicely. So, everyone’s been going great, batters, bowlers, keepers. Sure, it’ll be a fantastic game and I look forward to watching and hopefully celebrating the girls’ success over here in India,” Starc was quoted as saying.
“Shell, Meg and all the girls out there in South Africa, from us here in India, it’s been great to watch the tournament so far. You keep finding ways of winning even in positions you probably shouldn’t, so credit to you there. You keep winning these things. Good luck,” Starc said.
“I hope it’s another game and you lift, I guess, another trophy for you, the second three-peat for a few of you. So good luck girls. We’ll be watching on proudly,” he added.
Australia finished Group A on top of the points table, after which they beat India by five runs in the semi-final a couple of days ago. Odds are in their favour ahead of the final as South Africa are yet to beat them in WT20Is out of six meetings.
