By India Today Sports Desk: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has written a heartfelt letter to the fans of the club after their Carabao Cup victory against Newcastle United. Ten Hag, who took over the club in the summer of 2022, has given United their first title since 2017, which came under Jose Mourinho.
United beat Newcastle in a clean performance, dominating the opponents to win via 2-0 margin. In a letter published on the Manchester United website, Ten Hag said that one of the first things that he wanted to work on after coming at Manchester United was the relationship between the players and the fans.
“I wanted to take the time to address you directly this morning. When I arrived at the club, we spoke about the challenge and importance of reuniting this group of players with our amazing fans,” ten Hag said in the letter.
“Believe me, this squad knows exactly how important you are. The bond between the supporters and the team is there for everyone to see and what we experienced together yesterday will only further strengthen that bond. The atmosphere generated by those of you at Wembley was incredible. From the first minute until the last you were there with us, driving the team on, supporting and encouraging them to get over the line to bring the trophy back to Manchester,” he further added.
Manchester United have taken big strides in the 2022/23 season despite several controversies and setbacks. The manager said that he is proud of the current group and who are working hard to reach the limit every single day.
Ten Hag said in the letter that he was proud of the effort that the players and staff put in and he saw the required desire, spirit and determination that was needed from the players.
“We set ourselves high standards every day. At Wembley we met those demands and got the reward of our first trophy together,” Ten Hag said.
