By India Today Web Desk: Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has said that he is back to 100 per cent fitness, saying it has been one of the worst parts of his career. Upon his return, Foden scored twice in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Bristol City in the FA Cup.
Speaking to ITV after the match, Foden said he feels he is back to full fitness after one of the worst periods of his career.
“I feel much better with my feet. I feel 100 per cent fit now and comfortable. It has been one of the worst parts of my career but everyone goes through them and it is how you react,” said Foden.
The England midfielder said he had discomfort in his feet and was frustrated when he couldn’t play football.
“[The issue was] discomfort in my feet and not playing as much. I love to play football and when I don’t I am a bit frustrated,” Foden added.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola lavished praise on Foden, calling him a diamond.
“Phil is our diamond. His impact has been amazing. Football pays off when you work like he does,” said Guardiola.
Foden has scored three goals in two matches since his return from injury. He scored once in Manchester City’s win over Bournemouth in the Premier League, before scoring a brace in the FA Cup.
“His career was always up, up, up. This season he struggled a bit and was a bit down. But now he’s back for the best bit of the season,” Guardiola added.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager said Bristol City showed how good they can be, adding that he was impressed by some of their players.
“It was really tough. Bristol showed us how good they can be. I was impressed by some players, I didn’t know them. The second half was much better. Incredible fans at Bristol. We came here five years ago in the Carabao Cup and it was amazing. I remember it perfectly,” said Guardiola.
