By India Today Web Desk: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said that the current Australian team does not have the quality of their teams in the past. Australia is currently 0-2 down in the four-match Border-Gavaskar series against India, with the third Test set to be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on March 1.
Speaking to PTI ahead of the third Test, Ganguly said India is a different beast in home conditions, adding that when it starts turning, they’re a better side than any other team.
“India is a different beast in India. They are a pretty good team all around but in India they are pretty hard to beat. When it starts turning, they are a better side than anyone,” said Ganguly.
When asked if India could win the series by a margin of 4-0, Ganguly said a clean-sweep is a possibility, insisting that this Australian team doesn’t have the quality that their teams did in the past.
“I think so. I don’t know how Australia can stop it. The problem is, we keep comparing this Australian team from the teams of the past and it’s not the same. You don’t have a Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, Steve and Mark Waugh, (Adam) Gilchrist, you name them. You don’t have that quality,” Ganguly added.
He went on to say that the mistake we are making is that we think this is Steve Waugh’s Australia but that is not the case.
“Steve Smith is a great player. (David) Warner hasn’t got going, (Marnus) Labuschagne is a good player but these are tough conditions for him as well. The mistake we make with Australian teams is that we think they are Steve Waugh’s Australia but that’s not the case. Different players get tested differently in different conditions,” said Ganguly.
